Boeing 737 Plane Makes Hard Landing in Northwest Russia

A Boeing 737 airliner with 94 people on board made a hard landing in Russia on Sunday, confirmed airline UTair, adding that no one was seriously injured.

UTair said that a “sharp, unpredictable wind shear” took place when the plane attempted to land, reported FlightGlobal. The landing gear collapsed while the plane was on the runway, it said.

“Owing to the prompt and highly professional actions of the crew, the aircraft was able to be kept on the runway until it stopped completely,” the airline stated. The crew was experienced, the firm said.

“Utair specialists have flown to Usinsk to analyze flight information and determine the causes of what happened,” the carrier said.

The plane was arriving at the Usinsk Airport in the Komo Republic, located about 930 miles from Moscow, Reuters reported.

Despite the landing gear being damaged upon landing, the crew was able to bring the plane to a halt on the runway, UTair said, according to the news agency.

Photos and videos posted on social media showed the plane on its belly and resting on the runway. One photo showed what appeared to be passengers attempted to climb out of the plane over its wing.

Russia’s federal Investigative Committee told FlightGlobal:  ”Steps are being taken to establish the circumstances of the aviation incident, as well as the causes and conditions.” A routine criminal probe was also opened.

The news comes on the heels of incidents involving Boeing’s 373 family. A Boeing 737-800 operated by Turkey’s Pegasus Airlines overshot a runway last week, crashing, which caused the plane to break into several pieces. Three people died.
