Police: 24 Shot, 4 Dead in Weekend Shootings Across Chicago

At least 24 people were shot, including four fatally, in separate shootings across Chicago over the past weekend, police said.

On Saturday, a man, who was later identified as 26-year-old Siraj Mahadeva, was shot and killed while standing on the porch of a friend’s house on the Northwest Side, officials told the Chicago Sun-Pezou. man was found by his friend after the friend heard a loud sound at around 3:25 a.m., said authorities.

Mahadeva was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and was pronounced dead, officials said.

A man was also fatally shot on Saturday afternoon in the West Pullman area on the Far South Side, authorities told news outlets. Ralph Williams, 38, was sitting in a vehicle near West 119th Street when two individuals approached the car before one opened fire at around 12:10 p.m., officials said.

Williams was hit in the back and taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. He was later pronounced dead, said police.

And on Saturday, a 40-year-old man was shot and killed in South Shore on the Far South Side. He was found dead at around 3:35 p.m. near a residence, said police, who added that the male hasn’t been identified yet.

Police told CBS2 that at 10 a.m. on Saturday, a 21-year-old woman was found shot in the head in an apartment in the 2300 block of North Austin Avenue in Belmont Central. woman was taken to  Loyola University Medical Center and was pronounced dead there.

Officials told local media outlets a 16-year-old male was shot and injured Saturday in Gresham on the South Side. teen, who was not named, was sitting in a vehicle when someone inside another car opened fire, striking the teen in the back.

teen was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was stabilized, officials told the Sun-Pezou.

At around 2 p.m. in a separate incident on Saturday, according to police, two people were wounded during a drive-by shooting in Oakland on the South Side. A man and a woman were standing near the 1000 block of East 43rd Street when someone fired shots, said police.

man, 45, was struck in the arm, torso, and leg. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition. woman, 64, was shot in the leg and was taken to the same medical facility, where she was stabilized, according to police.

Last weekend, officials said that at least nine people died and more than 30 were injured in shootings. In 2021 so far, at least 813 homicides have been reported in Chicago.
