Scramble to Track Cambodia Cruise Passengers After Coronavirus Case Reported

SIHANOUKVILLE, Cambodia—Health authorities scrambled on Feb. 17 to track hundreds of passengers who disembarked from a cruise ship in Cambodia last week after a woman tested positive for coronavirus, heightening fears about the spread of the disease around the world. The new case raises questions about how companies and countries should handle monitoring and quarantine for people who may have been exposed to the new virus, since the American woman from the Westerdam cruise ship had passed the usually presumed incubation period of 14 days. Holland America Line, which is owned by cruise giant Carnival Corp., said it is working with governments and health experts to track passengers. “Guests who have already returned home will be contacted by their local health department and be provided further information,” the company said…

Pelosi Warns Democrats ‘Must Be Unified’ to Make Sure Trump Isn’t Reelected

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), in a new interview, warned Democrats that they must stay united to ensure President Donald Trump isn’t reelected.

While she hasn’t endorsed any of the candidates, Pelosi said any of the Democrats running for president “would be better” than Trump.

“I can’t even envision a situation where he would be reelected. But we are not, we don’t take anything for granted. As I say, we have to have our own vision for the future. But everybody knows that [Democrats] must be unified in making sure that he does not have a second term,” Pelosi told CNN on Sunday in an interview.

The interview comes on the heels of a failed Democratic-led bid to remove Trump from office following a monthslong impeachment inquiry. At the same time, Democratic candidates are continuing to jockey for position in a crowded 2020 field, with no clear front-runner after the Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire primary.

“We know one thing: we have a better vision for America, and we must defeat Donald Trump who does not share a vision that is about unity and unifying the country,” Pelosi said, adding that the Democratic hopefuls have “made a very valuable contribution to the debate.”

“I think every one of our candidates, all 25—I don’t know if Michael Bloomberg is counted in the 25, but Michael Bloomberg, too—have made a very valuable contribution to the debate putting forth their vision, their knowledge, their judgment, their strategic thinking,” the speaker said.

Pelosi also responded to a question about former Vice President Joe Biden, whose 2020 campaign has suffered recent setbacks in New Hampshire and Iowa.

“With all the respect in the world for Iowa and New Hampshire, I’m not counting Joe Biden out. There’s still races ahead that are much more representative of the country,” she explained.

Following the Nevada and South Carolina primaries on Feb. 22 and Feb 29, respectively, candidates will face off on the March 4 Super Tuesday. Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, and Virginia will hold their presidential primaries on that date, where more than 1,300 of the 3,979 pledged delegates will be awarded to the candidates.

In a Sunday interview, Biden said he believes his campaign will perform well in South Carolina as the state has a significant number of African American voters. He said, “I’m the only one who has the record and has the background and has the support. They know me. They know who I am.”

University Tells Professors to Stop Sending Students for Coronavirus Tests Over Coughing

After receiving complaints, the University of Florida (UF) has told its faculty members that they should not exclude students who may be visibly sick from class due to fears of the new coronavirus. There has been no confirmed case of the coronavirus, called COVID-19, on the UF campus that hosts some 6,000 international students, but at least one professor reportedly asked coughing and sniffing students to leave class and be tested for the virus, reflecting anxieties about the disease’s spread amid Florida’s flu season. “We are aware that some instructors have asked students who are showing visible cold- or flu-like symptoms to leave class and return with a letter from the Student Health Care Center confirming that they do not have coronavirus,” the school’s provost, Joseph Glover, wrote to deans…
