City of Newport Beach appointed a new mayor and mayor pro tem during its Dec. 14 council meeting.
Kevin Muldoon, who was serving as the city’s mayor pro tem, was appointed as mayor following then-mayor Brad Avery’s finishing his one-year term as a leader on the dais.
This will be Muldoon’s second term as mayor, as he previously served in 2017.
“I would like to thank my colleagues for their trust. It is truly the honor to be selected again to serve as mayor, and this time even more so because what you’re getting,” Muldoon said during the meeting. “Our last couple of years, we as a city have faced together historic challenges and unforeseeable obstacles. My hope as mayor is to lead a united city council and the city into the new year full of new beginnings and blessings.”
After Muldoon was selected to serve as mayor, first-year Councilman Noah Blom was selected in a split 4–3 vote to serve as mayor pro tem, with the other candidate being Councilwoman Joy Brenner.
