Authorities identified the 8-month-old girl who was killed after being struck by a car after she fell out of a moving vehicle at an intersection in Irving, Texas.

Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the child as Kassidy Smith, they told KXAS-TV KXAS-TV in Dallas.

No charges have been filed in the case so far, authorities told FOX4. y are not classifying the case as a hit-and-run.

Irving Police Public Information Officer Robert Reeves said that four children were inside the vehicle when Kassidy fell. None of the children—aged 6, 3, 2, and 8 months—were restrained, he said.

Reeves said that it’s not clear why the child fell from the car, which was turning from N. MacArthur Boulevard onto westbound Ranchview Drive at about 10:30 a.m. on Sunday. Witnesses told police that they saw the child fall before it was struck by another vehicle.

“y saw the child fall out, they thought it was a baby doll that was falling out of the car,” Reeves told reporters. “y saw the other vehicle drive over the child and that’s when they realized it was a child. y immediately stopped and the driver of that vehicle got out and started rendering CPR.”

Investigators are speaking with Kassidy’s siblings to determine what happened. Namely, they are trying to determine whether the vehicle’s door was already ajar or if someone opened it during the time of the incident, Reeves remarked.

As for the car that hit the child after she fell, Reeves said investigators suspect that the driver “might have thought it was a package or an animal possibly, and they just ran over it and kept going,” Fox4 reported.
