A 22-year-old man was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after a pickup crashed into a brick mailbox and an RV parked outside a house early Sunday in far East El Paso, police said.

The man was driving a black 2019 Chevrolet Colorado when he crashed about 2:20 a.m. in the 11400 block of James Grant Drive, police said. The residential street is off George Dieter Drive near St. Stephen Deacon and Martyr Catholic Church.

The injured driver’s name was not released, though police noted he is an East Side resident.

The Chevrolet was speeding eastbound on James Grant Drive when the truck veered to the right, struck a brick mailbox and then crashed into the back of an RV parked in front of a house, police said.

Debris from the crash hit three other vehicles parked in the driveway of the home, police said in a news release. The driver of the pickup was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

The crash is under investigation by the Special Traffic Investigations Unit, which suspects speed was a factor in the wreck. Investigators are waiting on test results to determine if alcohol was also a factor.
