Trade Deal or De-couple? Does Trump Have a Dangerous Hope? – Zooming In | The China Angle

Welcome to Zooming In’s China Angle, I am Simone Gao. Recently the Trump administration has expressed satisfaction with how China has been purchasing US agricultural products. However, the president called off the scheduled review talk by the two parties on the trade deal last week saying I don’t want to talk to China right now. Does the president still want a trade deal with China? Is the trade deal a good remedy for the unbalanced trade relations with China or is it going to facilitate a further integration with China that will eventually harm the American people? Let’s start today’s inquiry by hearing these words from President Trump’s national economic advisor Larry Kudlow. In another fox news interview, Kudlow said China has been buying more agricultural products than we have…

Larry King’s Son and Daughter Die Within Weeks of Each Other

Longtime talk show host Larry King said Saturday that two of his children have died within roughly three weeks of each other.

His son Andy King, 65, unexpectedly passed away of a heart attack in late July, while his daughter Chaia King, 52, died earlier this week “only a short time after having been diagnosed with lung cancer,” King wrote on Facebook.

“Both of them were good and kind souls and they will be greatly missed,” he wrote.

“Losing them feels so out of order. No parent should have to bury a child,” King said. “My family and I thank you for your outpouring of kind sentiments and well wishes. In this moment, we need a little time and privacy to heal. I thank you for respecting that.”

Both children were from King’s 1961 marriage to Alene Atkins. The couple divorced and remarried in 1967, before divorcing again in 1971. King and Chaia co-authored a children’s book titled “Daddy Day, Daughter Day” in 1997, recounting their experiences with the divorce.

Atkins passed away peacefully in 2017, King tweeted at the time.

King declined CNN’s request for comment via a spokesman at Ora TV.

The acclaimed TV interviewer hosts Ora TV’s “Larry King Now,” where he interviews celebrities, world leaders, and internet stars.

From 1985 to 2010, King hosted CNN’s “Larry King Live.”

King, 86, underwent a heart procedure in 2019 after experiencing chest pain, CNN previously reported.

King is also a father to four children from previous marriages and is a stepfather to one. He parted ways with his most recent spouse Shawn Southwick in 2019.

Victorian Premier Wants To Extend State of Emergency

The Victorian government wants to extend its state of emergency by at least 12 months to combat the ongoing coronavirus crisis. However, Opposition Leader Michael O’Brien said the state coalition would vehemently oppose a long-term extension that would allow the government to unilaterally keep Victoria locked down. While the state had 15 more deaths on Aug. 24, the number of new cases plummeted to 116—the lowest it has been since 74 on July 5. That was also the last time the number was under 100. Premier Daniel Andrews said the state of emergency would be reviewed every four weeks, but parliament must approve the change. As the legislation stands, the state of emergency can only run for six months. That runs out on September 13, when Melbourne’s stage-four lockdown is…
